The weddings of 2021 are sure to look a little different after the year we all experienced in 2020. Let’s discuss the big trends we have seen so far. If COVID taught us anything, it would be how important friends and family truly are to each of us. We no longer take for granted the times we get to spend together, so weddings this year have become quite intimate and not just due to guest count restrictions. Many couples are choosing to size down their guest lists to ensure a safe and happy celebration. Cheekwood recognizes how special intimate gatherings truly are and love to be a part of making it all happen. The saying “quality over quantity” truly applies to hosting your event in one of Cheekwood’s intimate spaces.

With a smaller guest count, couples turn the focus on ensuring a magnificent experience for their guests with no detail spared. Couple’s allocating more dollars in their budget towards over-the-top dinner experience, sentimental tabletop settings, breathtaking flower arrangements, and/or the overall design of the day improves greatly when you get to focus on those smaller details.

Couples are looking for ways to keep their guests as comfortable as possible. What better way to do so than to have a cozy living room right in the middle of your celebration. Living room décor has always been trending in wedding design, but this year it has especially become a staple at any celebration. Couples want their guests to feel comfortable since for many this may be their first time back in a large gathering setting. A fun lounge seating area with plush pillows is always an attention grabber in wedding décor and is one to definitely please your guests.

One thing that has come from 2020 is people are spending much more time outdoors. It is no surprise outdoor weddings are probably the biggest trend of 2021. An outdoor wedding is one way to ensure safety and comfort of your guests with an open air space and room to spread out. Outdoor weddings allow you to be extremely creative with how you want to design the space. Tenting and lighting can completely transform your outdoor wedding into a ballroom under the stars.

3 Reasons We Love Elopements

Elopements at Cheekwood

As if planning a wedding did not provoke enough anxiety, the pandemic has compounded the natural stress that already comes along with wedding planning. Brides are making really tough decisions to cancel, postpone, and reevaluate their plans to say “I Do” around a large group of family and friends. To make matters more complicated, the confusion around guidelines on gatherings, new protocols, and uncertainty of the future of the pandemic are making it harder to decided how to move forward. As an engaged couple -whatever you may be feeling – you are not alone. Many couples are turning to elopements as a solution to gain back control of their wedding and move forward. Historically elopements are thought of as a couple whisking away unknown to family and friends to hold a secret ceremony to solidify a union. These days – now more than ever – elopements are providing couples a safe and certain way to be married while including their most inner circle of guests. Cheekwood has provided a stunning backdrop for elopements way before the pandemic hit. Our team will continue to service our couples who want to keep it simple – for whatever the reason.

Here are our top 3 reasons we love elopements now and forever:

1. Keep the focus on you – Every single moment will be focused on you and your new spouse! There will be less pressure to entertain guests or to be distracted by others.

2. There’s always time to plan a bigger celebration later – The thought of planning a big gathering may make some feel uncomfortable during this time. This feeling is okay! You can still have the wedding of your dreams, even if you plan to throw a grand party at a later date. No one says it all has to be done in one day!

3. Pictures last a life time – Spend the day taking really great photos! You will feel like a million bucks, and no one will be waiting on you so they can eat dinner. Eliminating the stress and rush of a timeline will truly let your best side shine.

2019 Wedding Trends

2019 Wedding Trends

Idyllically located just eight miles west of downtown Nashville, Cheekwood is the area’s premier wedding destination.  Cheekwood offers unique indoor and outdoor spaces suited for any couple, from intimate garden ceremonies to lavish receptions. The talented special events team at Cheekwood provides services to an average of 75 brides per year. And with a busy wedding season just ahead, we asked Special Events Manager Jenny Morris to share with us this year’s most defining style trends.

Embracing the Arts

More and more couples elect to source local artists to produce custom artwork for their event. This can be found in multiple forms. One way to incorporate illustrative artwork in form of stationary items such as save-the-dates and invitations. In this digital age, guests and couples find hand illustrations to be a refreshing way to create a memorable invite. Another trend becoming popular is hosting an artist on site to capture the moments on canvas in real time. Guests enjoy watching the artist work during the reception and the bride and groom take away a keep-sake beyond photographs.

Intimate Gatherings

Looking for a way to cut some of the pressure?  Some couples are choosing smaller ceremonies and/or receptions. We have seen a rise in elopements and small ceremonies over the last couple of years that has now transpired into smaller receptions as well. Smaller gatherings allow the couple to really focus on themselves and their most intimate circle of people in their lives. All guests get to spend adequate time with the couple in the celebration that creates deeper memories for all involved in the celebration. Also to remember – every head at your wedding has a price attached. By lowering the guest count, you can elevate the budget to spend on the extra details you have always dreamed.

Velvet

Velvet made a giant comeback in 2018 and will be in full force for 2019 weddings. This luxurious fabric makes a large statement as a foundation to any table space. Don’t just look for this textile on the table. Velvet is can be found in various forms to soft seating and seat cushions to ribbon details around florals. Look for specialty linen companies to provide the largest variety of color palettes for any season.

Copper

Copper is a great versatile metal. Shiny and polished, copper suggests a glamorous and elegant feel. A matte finish copper provides a rustic or vintage element to the occasion. Copper is showing up in various form from flatware and floral vases to arches for ceremonial décor. For an unexpected element for your table space, consider the copper route. Added bonus – it pairs nicely with popular mule cocktails!

Structural Floral Arrangements

An alternative to the floral-filled arches that center the bride and groom for ceremonies, consider adding an industrial element such as shapes! We are spotting more and more metal or branch structures with an edited floral arrangement added for a more minimalistic style (which also lessens cost). These structures can be found in ceremony arches, cake decor or other decorative elements around your reception area.
